Due to COVID-19, many water utilities are not shutting water off for non-payment, as well as waiving late and reconnection fees. Some utilities have made this choice, while others are under moratoriums set by their states. How can utilities continue to operate so that the water stays on to combat COVID-19 through handwashing when some customers aren’t paying? This webinar will provide practices to mitigate the revenue loss to utilities.
One practice will involve offering low-flow restrictors to non-paying customers to reduce their volumetric charges. We will also look at how customer assistance programs (CAPs) can be started or expanded at small water systems. The webinar will cover ways to fund these CAPs. We will also consider some practical ways to reduce costs by shifting resources during the pandemic.
